‘Sorry’ seems to be a rare-ish word - for a banker

bankers_2

This Wordle shows the breakdown of words used by some of the UK’s (former) most senior bankers when questioned by MPs about what why their companies are in such financial strife. ‘Bank’ (unsurprisingly), ‘board’ and ‘risk’ all feature heavily, with 132,142 and 149 mentions respectively. So too do ‘business’ (70) and ‘experience’ (72) - perhaps unreasonably, one might suggest. Interestingly ’sorry’ didn’t even make our ‘100 most-used words’ list. (It clocked in with 15 mentions.) Nor did ‘apologise’ and all its variants - which between them managed only 38. (Thanks to the subtitles team at Sky, for providing us with transcripts of this morning’s proceedings before the Treasury Select Committee, and to Wordle.net, for letting us create the word cloud. We should point out that the transcription did not enable us to filter out the MPs’ questions, so the word cloud represents a mixture of these and the bankers’ responses.)
